At St. John's Learning Center, we are licensed by the State of Michigan to care for 82 children between the ages of 6 weeks - 12 years old. We have 5 classrooms that run year round. In the summer, we also offer a school-age program for children 6-12 years old.
Each day we care for children and provide them with the opportunities they need to grow in all areas of development (physical, academic, social, emotional, and spiritual). Through our daily activities, we prepare our children for success in Kindergarten when they leave our program. However, we do not only provide them with an educational foundation, we also provide them with a spiritual foundation. While in our care, the children are taught that they are a child of God and that His love for them is never ending. They learn that Jesus died on the cross to take away their sins. They learn how to pray and to love others as Jesus loves them. They learn bible stories and songs that will stick with them far after they leave our care. It is truly a blessing to be able to provide so many children with the essentials they need in the most crucial, early years of their precious lives.

The infant caregivers meet the children’s needs consistently, promptly, and lovingly. Reacting to an infant’s needs this way helps the infant to develop a sense of trust. St. John’s caregivers don’t believe infants can be spoiled and every opportunity to hold, cuddle, and simply enjoy interacting with the infants is taken to insure a loving atmosphere. The same caregivers are responsible for the infants each day. This promotes a trusting bond between the child and the caregiver Infants change rapidly in the first year of life. They learn to crawl, toddle, and walk. They learn to talk and sing. Infants learn to think. The infant environment is structured and changed to meet, develop, and enhance all the stages of the first year of life. Infants have opportunities daily for large and small motor, sensory, social, discovery, and creative activities. A Daily Infant Record is completed and sent home. This form includes information on diaper changes, naps, meals, and activities from the day.

The toddler children are curious and energetic. The toddler youngsters need interaction with warm and loving caregivers. The same caregivers are responsible for the care of the toddlers each day. This allows for a nurturing and trusting relationship between the children and the caregivers to develop and grow. Toddlers are becoming more independent as they grow. The caregivers encourage independence in daily play, learning activities, and life skill experiences. Toddlers have daily opportunities for development in the following areas: large and small motor, sensory, social, discovery, and creative activities. A Toddler Daily Report, including all pertinent information about each toddler’s day is completed and sent home daily. The Toddler Daily Report includes information on eating, napping, and diapering or toilet training.
"Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court."

These two rooms are designated for children 2 - 3 years of age. We developed these rooms to help with the transition from the toddler program to the preschool program. The children have the opportunity to develop their ever-changing skills to help prepare them for the preschool room. The daily schedule and activities look very similar to those of the preschool class just tailored to the developmental level of the children.

Preschool children are fairly independent and interact freely with their peers. The preschool program is designed to enhance each stage of a child’s development. Activities are presented daily, during Learning Stations that enhance the intellectual, physical, social, emotional, creative, and spiritual needs of each child. The preschool children learn through doing, and are given opportunities to develop the skills necessary for success in kindergarten. Emphasis is placed on language skills (reading and writing), and math skills (counting and simple math). The preschool teachers plan learning centers that are developmentally appropriate.
Our school age program is offered to all children ages 6-12years old. Following Adrian Public Schools schedule, we provide care when school is canceled, delayed, and scheduled days off during the school year. We also provide care during the summer months, with this program starting and ending in accordance with the Adrian Public Schools start and end dates. We offer the school age children a safe place to make new friends while enjoying age appropriate activities. The children in our program will have a fun filled summer while maintaining their academic skills. Activities include, but are not limited to, arts and crafts, nature walks, water days, reading and math games.
